When I backup FirstEdge to an external hard drive, it seems to end up as a Word document, and I can't open it. What am I doing wrong? When I backup to a flash drive, I don't have this problem, so even though I know flash drives are not meant to be used to back up files, that's what I've been doing until I can figure this out.

Also....is there any advantage to closing out a year? Last time I did this (2006), I could't access that year any more.

I did close out 2006 last month. I can look at those PO's and Invoices but i can not change them. I do remember a message during the process that asked if I wanted to Purge accounts and I click on No. If you leave too many years that are not closed up, then the system will get very slow (so I've been told) and also you won't be able to get the correct dates on the reports because they go by "last year", or previous year, etc
