I too have backup problems with First Edge. It used to work but no longer does. I have a Mac. The Save button is greyed out so I can not do the backup.

I just loaded FirstEdge on a Mac (10.5.4) and created a new company file. I too receive the 'greyed-out' save button when backing up the file. If I manually edit the MYOB supplied 'save-as' file name, the save button becomes enabled, and I can create a backup. Not an ideal solution, but it seems to work for me.

Hi,

You have to shorten the name of the backup file. It only uses so many characters on a Mac.

It used to be that way for the PC version years ago too. When you back up, MYOB gave you the back up date as a suggested name, I tried to change it but to no avail. I tried with the Premier 2008 version yesterday and it allowed me to add more letter after the back-up date as a file name for the back-up

I have the mac version but you still have to shorten their suggested name, it is because I chose the name of the MYOB file, that is long, plus the date is too long.

I am still having a backup problem with MAC. I have shortened the name and was able to save but it does so as a .sit file. When I try to open it I just get gibberish.

Be sure you have Stuffit installed on your computer. Then try to use the Restore a backup process, located in the Help System, http://help.myob.com/ae09/mac/maintenance.29.3.htm

Thanks for the reply. I did download Stuffit but your suggestion to use Restore does not work. I used Backup and shortened MYOB's suggested name, as suggested by a previous post, and it's working fine. Thanks to all for the input.
