We are setting up a new master database with Filemaker Pro. I see that MYOB has an ODBC driver that is Windows compatible. Is there a Mac solution as well? We would love to integrate our systems.
Hi Brad, Yes, we are actually just finishing up implementing this. I used two developers to get it done. First, found a good Filemaker developer. He did not know how to write the AppleScripts but was able to create the routines in FM to export info and trigger the AppleScripts. I then found a programmer who specializes in writing the AppleScripts that take the FM export and import it to MYOB. He probably could have done the whole thing but our FM developer knew our FM system inside and out so we found it more efficient and cost-effective to let each of them do their thing. The FM to MYOB specialist is a guy named Dave Wheelock. His company is called Desktop Services. Email him at davidw@desktopservices.net. Feel free to mention my name and company (Tim with NorthWest Supply, Inc.). He was just finishing our project just prior to Christmas. Our needs have been fairly complex and have included importing customers, vendors, invoices, purchase orders, sales tax amounts and payments. Working out a couple scripting bugs but I think we are 98% there. Feel free to contact me directly if you have more questions (tim@nwsmedical.com).
Tim, I have been using Filemaker on a Mac for 10 plus years and MYOB on a Mac for about 6 years. The two were never very compatible, but have gotten a lot more user friendly in the last 2 years. If you have a good Filemaker programmer, it is very easy to Export Data from MYOB and use it in Filemaker. We have scripts that take all of our "Contacts" from MYOB and we import them into Filemaker very easily. We also use Filemaker to run profit reports that MYOB doesn't provide. We export the Sales data from MYOB and have a Filemaker script that takes the actual purchase prices and sales and comes up with a report showing the Actual Gross Profit by Customer (not item like MYOB only allows). Extremely handy report. It is not too easy to import items into MYOB, however. As of now, our Company basically uses Filemaker for one side of the business for Construction, job costing, labor and service related items, and MYOB for all the Accounting, Purchasing, and Payroll for Material Sales. Very hard to make either do both, and very hard to integrate the two.
