I buy and sell TV's. I would like to track inventory using the mfg.'s serial number for each unique TV within the same model number. Is their a way to enter the TV's unique serial number at the time of purchase and track inventory based on this number?
I have tried custom fields on the item detail but this reports on all puchases of the same item. Anybody have a solution???? Thanks!

Gary

Have you tried using 'jobs'. I do remodels and it allows me to enter expenses and later payments line by line on purchases and sales.

Seems if the model were an 'inventory item' and a 'job' the serial number it would work-haven't tried it though.

Hi GaryA

I also am dissatisfied with the handling of unique items. Here is a copy of what I sent to Lauren at Acclivity about the issue.

Can other users chime in with their thoughts?

Thanks
Danny

We sell a lot of one-of items. Can you enable us to make the item disappear from the products list after its inventory goes to 0? That way we wouldn't have to manually delete every one-of product's profile once we sell it. I.e. we buy a desk from a garage sale, fix it up, then sell it. It's a unique item and the next desk we buy will be very different. I think AE needs just this little bit more flexibility with one-of items that are sure to be common with your clientele.

...

Our issue is that we are selling many many unique items, and AE doesn't seem to have a slick way of taking these into inventory and dealing with their lifecycle. I am going to again request a "unique items" flag. What I'm really hoping for, though, is a "acquire unique items" pane where we can create and inventory new unique items in one step. i.e. I buy an antique table for $100. This is a unique item. I go to the pane, I create this unique item, give it a product code, and according to a template, the tracking accounts are set up;I state what I paid for it (and how I paid) and what it's expected selling price is. Done. Now I can sell the item immediately, print a label for it, etc. I hope that makes perfect sense. Really, right now it makes AE prohibitively difficult to track items of low value since the time to enter them into the system is so much.

One other thing: could you please create a "default setting for the default locations." Currently, every time I create an item I have to say its default location. I'd like AE to automatically put, for example, "Store" as the default location in both boxes, unless I change it to something else (i.e. offsite.) This would save me TONS of time.

Re default location: I completely agree that it would be so helpful to have the program set a default location. It is annoying to have to manually enter the default location with each new inventory item. We carry a lot of inventory items and have only 3 locations with one item being used the most. Re unique items: we don't have too many unique items, but I also find there's no easy way to track the information related to the one-time purchase and sale of a unique item. That data file keeps getting larger!
