I need to split some of my accounts and create header accounts to total the split accounts. This does not seem to work. Here's an example:

I have a "Supplies" account 6-1101. It currently has a balance of $100. I add another account called "Supplies 2" and give it a number 6-1101. Then I add a header account 6-1100. That does not sum the two other accounts. It does work if I make all three accounts new accounts.

Is there a way to make this work?

You need to manually adjust how the accounts are nested. At the bottom of the accounts list screen are the buttons "Up" and "Down". Use those to adjust the accounts to be under a header (down) or on their own (up). Of course how you number them does have an impact on what can be under what.
